Your passion? Your job? Or both?

Yesterday, I ran across this  article on the web.

Article on the web I ran across

I’m a sucker for “How They Started Their Business” stories.  I could spend all day on CNBC watching those documentaries on different companies….it just fascinates me.  And they all seem to begin the same way…..A person with a passion.

Even though the next few months are going to be busy, I wouldn’t trade this job for anything.  It is indeed…my passion.

My passion started as a kid whose mom would take her to garage sales and thrift stores.  Funny thing is….I REALLY disliked going to them.  But I got older, wiser,…..and in some instances…. poorer.  And THEN I saw the wisdom in all those early purchases in my childhood.  I began to see the originality in the items and loved using my creativity in reusing these things .  And it just kept growing….and then Ebay happened….and I could combine what I loved doing with bringing in some income. Wow! What fun…AND I could pay the electric bill!  And it still is morphing into very fun things…this blog….my store.

I know I’m not the only one. When did your passion for this business start? What inspired you? Tell us what made you make the leap into all of this?

  1. Why did you do that? Now I have to stop listing clothes for my store and look at all of the wonderful clothes on the site you found.
    I WAS having a productive day……
    Just kidding…..great site and story

    That’s an inspiring story.

For me I’ve always loved vintage. Things with a history, rust, a patina. I have always liked to shop at thrift stores. I’ve had an account on eBay since 1999 and mostly bought but did a little selling here and there. Recently I started reading reselling blogs and getting more into it. Then 4 months ago I lost my job. I decided that I was going to put my efforts into my reselling and see if it was something I could make a living doing. It’s definitely a passion and my job. I love the component of treasure hunting. I don’t know yet whether I can make it into supporting myself full time but I am learning more and more and I know its possible! I’ve seen what other people have done. Last week I brought my first piece of furniture to a consignment shop. I see so many possibilities that I haven’t even tried.

And I forgot to say yours is one of those reselling blogs that inspired me! And what you do makes me think I might be able to do it too 🙂

That was a great story. Also, my daughter would totally dig the clothes on that site, must remember to tell her.
Now, onto my passion. I absolutely have a passion for vintage, antique, well loved, historied objects. I also have a passion for shopping for them. Nothing thrills me more than going into a place, be it a garage sale, thrift store, estate sale, or garbabe pile and discovering a fantastic item. It makes my heart beat faster, my day seem brighter. It absolutely thrills me. I wish I could say that about selling. While I don’t mind it, if I am to be completely honest I don’t love reselling. I think it is why I resist doing more. If I keep it at a comfortable amount, it doesn’t seem so much like work. I don’t want to turn the fun I have doing this into a chore. I think it will make it lose some of its magic and sparkle. So, lucky for me I have a full time job that pays the bills, and reselling doesn’t have to become another JOB. Because for me, the passion is the “stuff”, not the selling of the stuff.
